Stanmore Public School Message from the Principal

Lunar New Year Celebrations

On Thursday morning, our students, teachers and parents of performers enjoyed an exciting, colourful and educational celebration of Lunar New Year. The students’ singing and dance groups and the Lion Dance presented by Jin Wu Koon were of the highest quality.

Thanks to Ms Ji for her leadership of Chinese language culture education in our community; to Ms Lopes, Ms Poon and Mr Hunt for their assistance in organising the event; to the student executive for hosting; and to all the students performers for their hard work in preparing items.

Strategic Improvement Planning at Stanmore PS

Our team is well on the way to constructing our new Strategic Improvement Plan, to guide our work as educators over the next four years at Stanmore PS. After collecting a wide range of data from assessments, surveys, focus groups and External Validation, we have drafted the following Strategic Directions to focus on:

Strategic Direction 1: Student Growth and Attainment

  • Focus on using data to inform differentiated instruction

Strategic Direction 2: Continuous Improvement of Practice

  • Focus on developing collaborative practice and distributed leadership across the school

Strategic Direction 3: Positive Learning Culture

  • Focus on ensuring respectful relationships at all levels, and positive partnerships with parents, the wider community and local pre-schools, primary and secondary schools.

If you would like to know more about these draft initiatives, you can access the slideshow I presented to the P&C meeting last Tuesday →

To gather input and feedback from our parent community regarding our Strategic Improvement Plan, we are holding two parent forums – one via Zoom during school hours, and another in person after hours. Both sessions will be capped at 30 participants to enable more effective discussion and collaboration. You can see dates and times and register your interest in participating via the Google Forms below.

Parent consultation forums – Strategic Improvement Plan

  • Wednesday 24 February – 2:00pm (via Zoom)
  • Wednesday 3 March – 5:30pm (on site – staff room)

Activities Statements

Term 1 Activities Statements have been prepared, and some classes received theirs today. The remaining classes will be sent home on Monday. In response to parent feedback, we are making efforts to lower the fees being charged to families across the school, and spread the fees more evenly across the year.

As always, if you are not in a position to pay the full fees at this time, we encourage you to contact the office to discuss partial fee waivers, or arrange a payment plan. A summary of fees for the year is being sent out with the Activities Statement so you are aware of upcoming charges throughout the year.

Library Gate – vehicle pick ups only please

The Kiss and Go Zone and the Library gate on Holt St are for vehicle pick ups only in the afternoon. Please do not park your car outside the Kiss and Go Zone and come to the Library gate to collect your child on foot.

If you are using Kiss and Go, please stay in your car and display your family name on the visor. Pedestrian congestion around the Library gate impacts on student safety and the smooth operation of the Kiss and Go Zone. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

Until next week,

Hugh Miller
