Stanmore Public School Message from the Principal

Dear parents and carers,

Revised afternoon pick up procedures

Now that parents are permitted onto school grounds to drop off and pick up children, we are changing afternoon pick up procedures, effective from Monday 15th March 2021.

Families will no longer be assigned a gate by their surname, and teachers will not be supervising collection of children at the gates.

The following procedures are required to ensure a safe and orderly exit from the school grounds. Parents are reminded to observe 1.5m physical distancing and maintain COVID-safe hygiene practices at all times when on or outside school grounds.

Parent-Teacher Interviews Week 10

E-forms for all classes were emailed out via Operoo on Wednesday. Please book a time to meet with your child’s teacher before the bookings close on 24th March.

Effective communication between parents and school

Effective communication and partnership between home and school is a key factor in support of successful student learning and wellbeing.

The school has drafted a set of guidelines for effective communication between parents and the school, to assist parents and carers in how to go about seeking school related information and/or communicate concerns or address issues that arise. I’ll table these draft guidelines at the P&C Meeting on Tuesday evening, prior to publishing and sharing with the school community.

In the interim, can I supportively suggest that you consider how you can support your child to address and resolve issues directly with their class teacher. If an issue arises which requires attention from your child’s teacher, please consider talking to your child about how they might go about raising the issue or resolving it with their teacher, or other appropriate staff member, prior to directly messaging the teacher.

This approach supports the development of children’s confidence and agency in addressing and managing issues that arise, and also helps to reduce the number of emails in teachers’ inboxes, so they can spend more time focusing on planning, teaching and assessing their students.

Obviously some issues require direct communication between parents and teachers and are not appropriate for children to follow up – we understand that and welcome parent contact where needed. We just ask that you consider whether an issue could be managed by your child prior to emailing the teacher.

Garden works completed

Our Garden renovations have been completed and are looking amazing, featuring new compost bays and a purpose-built outdoor classroom space. Thanks to our highly skilled General Assistants Lindsay and Fiona for their recent construction of a sink on the side of the shed.

High School forms reminder

A reminder that Year 6 students need to return their signed High School Application Forms by Friday 19th March at the latest. All students must return a form, even students enrolling in non-government or interstate high schools. Thanks in advance for your prompt attention to this.

Until next week,

Hugh Miller
