Stanmore Public School Message from the Principal

Dear parents and carers,

As we approach the end of Term 1, we have some exciting celebrations scheduled.

Harmony Day and Greek Independence Day Celebrations

On Thursday 25th March, we we invite students to come to school dressed in orange, or in traditional dress for their cultural background, to celebrate Harmony Day. Our fortnightly assembly will be moved from Monday, and we will also celebrate Greek Independence Day with performances and speeches from some of our Greek students.

Parents of Greek performers and Harmony Day ambassadors are invited to attend this assembly. Please ensure that you check into the QR code and sign in at the office on arrival.

Week 10 Celebrations

Tuesday 30th March: World Autism Awareness day. Wear gold or yellow and bring a gold coin donation for Aspect Australia.

Thursday 1 April: Easter Hat Parade (students in Years K, 1 and 2 only). The Easter Hat Parade will be held at 11:20am, after recess. Thank you in advance for your assistance in preparing an easter hat for your child on this day.

Unfortunately we will not be inviting parents to watch the parade this year, as we are unable to ensure physical distancing of a large number of parents in the space we have available.

Student Illness Reminder

In accordance with advice from NSW Health, parents and carers are reminded not to send children to school if they are unwell, even if they have the mildest flu-like symptoms.

NSW Health has requested that schools encourage anyone who is unwell or has even mild flu-like symptoms, to arrange to be tested for COVID-19. Students with flu-like symptoms are expected to be tested and provide a copy of a negative COVID-19 test result and be symptom-free before being permitted to return to school.

If children are displaying flu-like symptoms in class, teachers have been asked to send them to the office so that parents can be contacted.

NAPLAN Readiness Tests next week

Students in Years 3 and 5 will be doing NAPLAN readiness tests next week. The purpose of these tests is to ensure our school IT and network infrastructure is functioning well, and that students and teachers are familiar with the NAPLAN online platform prior to the tests in Weeks 4 and 5 of next term. The data from the Readiness Tests is not recorded.

Until next week,

Hugh Miller
