This week during library lessons all students at Stanmore Public School listened to the book Give Me Some Space by Phillip Bunting which was chosen for National Simultaneous Storytime. National Simultaneous Storytime (NSS) is held annually by the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA). Every year a picture book, written and illustrated by an Australian author and illustrator, is read simultaneously in libraries, schools, pre-schools, childcare centres and bookshops around Australia and NZ. It is a vibrant event that aims to promote the value of reading and literacy, using an Australian children’s book that addresses key learning areas.
On Wednesday at 11am the story was read live from the International Space Station by the NASA astronaut Dr Shannon Walker! What an exciting reading event and shared reading experience!
