Last week Year 5 were lucky enough to spend three days at Narrabeen Sport and Recreation camp on the shores of Narrabeen Lagoon. Besides hanging out with our mates in the motel watching TV and making the rooms smelly, our time between breakfast and bedtime was spent doing lots of activities.
In raft building you had to have a lot of teamwork and trust. You had to make a raft and have two people riding it in the water and the rest of the people in the water pushing the raft to one side of the lake and back with the two people on top kept nice and dry. Also you had to try and not let your raft break apart. Hardly anyone made it.
Orienteering was fun because we got team up into groups and learn to use a compass. You had to go around the campsite following clues and trying to find letters that would make a word after you found them all.
Another activity we did was rock climbing where one person had to climb up the rock wall while five other people would stop them from falling back to the ground. It was really challenging. There were different colours for the different levels.
Kayaking was lots of fun. It was like a jungle in some parts. There were two bridges that you had to row under. It was pretty cool; one bridge was for cars the other was for people. When you were on the walking bridge you could see the kayakers and sometimes you could even see the raft builders which was also a lot of fun.
The ropes were really fun! There was a zip line that you could slide along upside down. There were definitely some challenges that pushed us to our limits. Some people thought it was hard and scary, and some people thought it was easy.
We definitely think that next year’s Year 5 will love this amazing experience. Thanks to Ms Barry, Mr Trudgett, Ms Carruthers, Ms Morris, Mr Lade and Ms Dimi who gave up their time to look after us for the three days.
